The Drawing Show
Freehand Drawing is taught at all Carpinteria, Goleta and Santa Barbara public high schools. Student artwork is often exploratory, and emphasis is placed on observation, problem-solving, composition and the descriptive quality of lines themselves.
Art teachers choose and enter a limited number of drawings that are then taken to a juror. Afterwards they are mounted or matted, covered in acetate and boxed for protection. The entire group of drawings is rotated between sponsoring teachers so that drawing students in their own classroom have the opportunity to see up close and discuss original work from other drawing students at other schools.
